Everyone belongs at N: Building a truly inclusive team
At N, we believe that people thrive best in an environment where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued – and that begins with our team.
From the moment you walk through our doors, you’ll see diversity reflected in every part of our nursery community. We celebrate individuality and identity and embrace people from all walks of life – different backgrounds, cultures, faiths, gender identities, ages, and experiences.
“You can unapologetically be yourself in all instances and you are celebrated for your differences and what you individually bring to N.”
Anon, Great Place To Work survey 2024
“People treat each other with respect and above all, kindness. It is the culture and the people that make it such a lovely place to work. People genuinely care about each other.”
Anon, Great Place To Work survey 2024
In our 2024 Great Place To Work survey, 97% of our team said they are treated fairly regardless of their sexual orientation and 95% said they are treated fairly regardless of their gender.
For us, inclusion isn’t a tick-box – it’s how we live, work, and grow together. It’s non-negotiable.
What inclusion means to us
Being inclusive means more than just hiring diversely. It means:
- Listening actively to each other’s voices
- Making space for different perspectives
- Challenging bias – in ourselves and in our systems
- Creating a psychologically safe workplace where everyone can be themselves, every day of the week.
Whether you’re just starting out in early years or bring decades of experience, this is an environment where you can be yourself and be celebrated.
Representation matters in early years
Children learn about the world through the people around them. When our team reflects the diversity of our families and communities, we send a powerful message: You are seen, you are respected, you are valued and you are included.
Let’s hear from Charlie, a team member at N Reading who is using his family set-up to educate the children and families at the nursery:
“For me, my family set-up is simple but to some, quite unique. I met and fell in love with Malachi, a trans-person (female to male). We fell pregnant and embraced the life that was about to change for the better. N Reading are some of the most supportive people we have in our lives right now. The families are so supportive too and enjoy catching up with us about our weekends and holidays.”
We believe every child deserves to see role models who look like them – and those who don’t – and every team member deserves to feel valued, regardless of their background.
How we’re building a more inclusive workplace
Here are just some of the ways we’re making our nursery more inclusive for our team:
- Our ‘N Rep’ model centred around inclusion, feedback and open dialogue
- Mandatory inclusion & diversity training for all team members
- Flexible work options to support different needs and lifestyles
- Safe spaces and open conversations around identity and wellbeing
- Celebrating awareness days and cultural events led by team input
Join a place where you’re seen, heard, and valued
We’re not perfect, and we’re always learning – but we’re committed to building a nursery team where everyone belongs. If you’re passionate about early years, love working with children, and want to be part of a truly inclusive team, we’d love to hear from you.
