How Flexi roles at N fit around real life
Careers today rarely follow one straight path.
Some people are building creative careers alongside meaningful work. Others are balancing studies, family life, personal passions, or entirely different professions while looking for work that fits around their lives.
At N, our Flexi Team is made up of people from all kinds of backgrounds, united by a shared desire to make a positive impact on children's lives while maintaining the flexibility to pursue their own goals and ambitions.
Whether you're an aspiring actor, a yoga teacher, a creative professional, or simply looking for a role that offers greater flexibility, Flexi working can help you build a career that works for you.
What is a Flexi role at N?
Being part of our Flexi Team means having the freedom to choose how, when, and where you work, while still enjoying the sense of purpose that comes from supporting children's early years.
No two days look exactly the same.
You might be supporting different nurseries, working with a variety of teams and age groups, or stepping in during busy periods. Along the way, you'll build confidence, experience, and connections across N.
Whether you're joining us as an Educator, Chef, Housekeeper, or Front of House team member, you'll play an important role in creating safe, welcoming environments where children can learn, grow, and thrive.
Following your passions while making a difference
One of the things we love most about our Flexi Team is the incredible range of experiences and talents people bring into our nurseries.
For Flexi Educator Ionut, flexibility allows him to combine two things he cares deeply about: supporting children's development and pursuing a creative career.
Having worked in early years for more than a decade, Ionut now supports children across several N nurseries through music sessions, storytelling, movement activities, and creative play. Alongside his work in early years, he's also a qualified children's yoga teacher, actor, and stand-up comedian.
"What attracted me most was the flexibility and the opportunity to work across different nurseries while still doing my gigs. N Family Club really values creativity, wellbeing, and individuality, and I felt that matched who I am both personally and professionally."
For Ionut, the ability to balance auditions, rehearsals, performances, and creative projects alongside meaningful work with children has been one of the biggest benefits of joining the Flexi Team.
"Flexible working has been incredibly important for me because it allows me to balance my creative career alongside my work in early years. Acting and stand-up comedy are big passions of mine, and the Flexi role gives me the freedom to attend auditions, rehearsals, and performances while continuing to work with children."
"It's the perfect balance because I get to keep doing meaningful work that brings me happiness, while also following my artistic goals."

Bringing new skills into nursery life
One of the unique strengths of a Flexi Team is the variety of experiences team members bring with them.
Ionut's background in acting, comedy, music, and yoga naturally influences the way he works with children every day.
Through storytelling, singing, movement, mindfulness, and imaginative play, he helps children build confidence, communication skills, creativity, and emotional wellbeing.
"My background in acting, comedy, music, and yoga all support my work with children in different ways. Acting helps me bring storytelling to life and keep children engaged and imaginative. Comedy brings humour, positivity, and connection into sessions. Music helps children communicate and express emotions, while yoga supports mindfulness, movement, and emotional regulation."
"All of these experiences help me create fun, memorable sessions where children feel confident, included, and happy."
These experiences don't just benefit the individual team member, they enrich children's learning experiences too.
Every nursery, every child, every day is different
For many Flexi Team members, variety is one of the most rewarding parts of the role.
Working across multiple nurseries means meeting different teams, supporting children of different ages, and experiencing a range of environments and learning approaches.
For Ionut, a typical week can involve leading music and yoga sessions across nurseries including Hackney Downs, Defoe Road, Leytonstone, Angel, and Buckhurst Hill, before heading off to an acting project, rehearsal, or comedy performance.
"A typical week usually involves visiting different N Family nurseries to lead music and yoga sessions. I use guitar, ukulele, singing, and storytelling to engage the children and help support their confidence, communication, and emotional development."
"Alongside work, I also spend time preparing comedy material, attending acting projects, rehearsals, or performances. Every week is different, which keeps life exciting and creative."
And despite the variety, one thing remains consistent.
"My favourite thing has definitely been seeing the children grow in confidence and happiness. Watching a child become more comfortable expressing themselves, joining in, singing, or simply smiling during a session is incredibly rewarding."
He also believes some of the most important moments in early years can often be the smallest.
"What continues to surprise me is how much children can achieve when they feel safe, encouraged, and confident. Sometimes the smallest moment like singing along for the first time, joining a group activity, or speaking up confidently, can make such a huge difference in their development."
"It reminds me every day how important it is to nurture children's self-esteem and emotional wellbeing from an early age."
Another story: When work fits just right
Flexi roles don't just support people pursuing creative careers. They also help team members create working patterns that genuinely fit around their lives.
For Cynthia, who has been part of N's Flexi Team for three years, flexibility is what makes the role so unique.
"Flexi has allowed me to be able to plan my time. You can work 8 to 6, Monday to Friday, you can work 9 to 5, you can work 10 to 2. It's so flexible and it's fantastic."
Having greater control over her schedule means she can plan her time in a way that works for her lifestyle and goals.
"You can do more hours, you can plan the time, you can plan your savings. This week I want to work, I want to earn this amount. Next week I want to rest for two days."
For Cynthia, flexibility isn't simply about choosing shifts - it's about having the freedom to create a better work/life fit.
"It's so flexible and I can say that I have never ever, in over 30 years working for different companies, found a company like this."
Her experience reflects what many Flexi Team members value most: the ability to do meaningful work while having the flexibility to shape a schedule around their lives.
Watch Cynthia share her Flexi Team experience in her own words:
